HILO, HAWAII – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced a temporary road closure on Kapiolani Street in Hilo to facilitate important street light foundation and sidewalk improvements. The closure will affect the northbound lane of Kapiolani Street from Lanikaula Street to the Hospice of Hilo at 590 Kapiolani St.

The closure is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

During this time, there will be no through traffic northbound at Lanikaula Street. Motorists are strongly advised to utilize alternate routes to avoid delays and congestion.

The DPW emphasizes the importance of exercising caution when traveling in the vicinity of the work zone. While efforts will be made to maintain pedestrian access where feasible, pedestrians are also urged to be aware of the ongoing construction and proceed carefully.

The Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation in ensuring the safety and efficiency of these necessary infrastructure improvements.
