At 9:30 pm last night a call came into the Hilo Station of the Hawaii Fire Department of flames visible with a storage building fire at 505 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.
Upon arrival at 9:35 pm, HFD found a concrete building with the contents burning and smoke and flame pouring out. For Public safety Kilauea Ave was shut down temparly with traffic being detoured to Kinoole. Firefighters pulled an attack line to the entrance of the building, where they encountered a bent security fence and two blocked doors. Firefighters forced the doors open, made an entrance, and fires were extinguished by 9:44 pm.
A complete overhaul was performed with the fire reportedly out by 10:39 pm. The contents of the storage building were a total loss but the building was saved. No one was reported to have been injured. The scene was then turned over to the Hawaii Police Department for investigation.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
