Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that Prosecutors have indicted 46-year-old Shawn Michael Henriques of Honolulu on charges related to the sexual assault of a minor, who was less than fourteen years old at the time of the incident, alleged to have occurred in April 2021.
Last Friday, Henriques made his initial appearance in Kona Circuit Court. Over Prosecutors’ objections, the Circuit Court judge reduced Henriques’ bail from $250,000.00 to $100,000.00 and ordered that he appear for jury trial on November 19, 2024. According to Court minutes, Henriques later posted bail.
As the Indictment alleges, Henriques is charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree which is a class A felony offense and carries a maximum penalty of a twenty-year prison term.
The case was initiated by Officer Michael Abran, South Kohala Patrol, and the felony investigation was led by Detective Sharlotte Bird, Area II Juvenile Aid Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chase Murray.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
