Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Kona man, 34-year-old Timothy Reeves, was arrested and charged for attempted distribution of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl offenses, after officers with the Area II Vice Section executed a residential narcotics search warrant upon an apartment unit at the Ulu Wini Apartments in Kailua-Kona on May 24, 2022.
As the Complaint alleges, Reeves was charged with six (6) offenses, including Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (distributed one-eighth ounce or more of methamphetamine), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (possessing over a one-eighth ounce or more of methamphetamine), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (possess over a one-eighth ounce or more of methamphetamine and/or one-fourth ounce or more of fentanyl), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Third Degree (possess over three grams of marijuana), and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia. The most serious offense, Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, is a class A felony offense that carries a maximum penalty of twenty (20) years in prison.
Reeves made his initial appearance on Wednesday in Kona District Court. The District Court judge reduced his bail from $111,250.00 to $5,000.00 over the Prosecutors’ objections. Reeves was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 26, 2022, in Kona District Court.
The area II Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department, handled the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by the Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney Narcotics Unit.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
