Kona Pair Charged with Auto Theft, Firearms, and Other Offenses

Hawai’i Island police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old-male, Kealii K. Liilii, and a 23-year-old-female, Caitlin K. Tailan both of Kailua-Kona, with operating a stolen vehicle, theft, drug, and related firearms offenses.

On Saturday, November 28, 2020, after conferring with county prosecutors, detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section charged Liilii with criminal contempt of court, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first degree burglary, first degree theft of a firearm, second degree theft, and two counts of fourth degree theft. Liilii’s total bail was set at $97,000. Liilii is currently on probation.

Tailan was charged at the same time with three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle first degree burglary, first degree theft of a firearm, second degree theft, two counts of fourth degree theft, third degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and drug paraphernalia. Tailan’s total bail was set at $17,250.

The charges stem from an incident that took place on the afternoon of Friday, November 27, when the victim of a stolen vehicle observed their vehicle parked within a commercial lodging establishment in the 75-5000 block of Kuakini Highway. Officers responded and contacted both Liilii and Tailan shortly after within one of the units of the establishment. Both parties were taken into custody and search warrants were executed on the vehicle and room which resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and narcotics. 

Both Liilii and Tailan remained in police custody pending their initial appearance in Kona District Court on Monday, November 30.
