KAILUA-KONA, Hawaiʻi – Hawaiʻi Island police have charged 19-year-old Fernando Villanueva-Gonzalez of Kailua-Kona with multiple offenses following a weapons incident reported on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the vicinity of Puohulihuli Street near Kealakehe High School.
Police responded to the 12:41 a.m. incident to find a crowd of approximately 20 individuals. According to witness accounts, a male suspect brandished a firearm and fired one round into the air during a physical altercation involving multiple people.
Villanueva-Gonzalez was identified as the suspect and arrested at the scene at 1:05 a.m. He was transported to the Kona Police Station, where he was held pending further investigation.
On Monday, June 2, 2025, Fernando Villanueva-Gonzalez was formally charged with offenses including: permit to acquire, possession of loaded firearm on highway, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, first-degree reckless endangering, place to keep pistols or revolvers, and place to keep ammunition.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation.
