Structure Fire on Lanai Street in Pahoa Destroys Home

A structure fire destroyed a single-story post and pier residential home around 1 am early this morning on Lanai Street in Pahoa.

At 1:09 am this morning and call came into the Pahoa Fire Station of a home on fire in Pahoa on Lanai Street. Hawaii Fire Department was dispatched by 1:13 am with the first unit on the scene by 1:26 am.

Upon the arrival of the first unit. A single-story wood-framed residential structure was found to be in the decay stage of the fire development. Hawaii Fire Department determined the surrounding trees and brush were being threatened by heat and fire. Immediate action was taken to assure the exposures were protected and the fire was contained to the already involved structure. No residents or witnesses were reported at the scene. Hawaii Fire Department had the fire under control by 1:40 am and extinguished the fire with an overhaul by 2:49 am.

Hawaii Police Department officers arrived on the scene and started gathering info from neighbors. HFD units returned to quarters after extinguishment operations were complete. There were no injuries or fatalities reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
