Lane Closures Announced for Hawaii Island State Roads and Highways: Week of Jan. 18 – Jan. 24, 2025

Hawaii Island residents and visitors are advised of several upcoming lane closures across the island during the week of January 18 through January 24. Roadwork will be taking place on multiple state roads and highways, including Mamalahoa Highway, Hawaii Belt Road, Keaau Pahoa Road, and others. Please note that lane closure schedules are subject to change without prior notice, and all work is weather permitting.

Key Lane Closures for the Week of Jan. 18 – Jan. 24:

Mamalahoa Highway (State Route 11)

  • Keauu: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 6 to 8, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and mulching trees.
  • Pahala (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 44 to 46, near Kapapala Ranch, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
  • Pahala: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 44 to 45, near Kapapala Ranch, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for grass cutting.
  • Keokea-Honaunau: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 97.3 to 104.7, near Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for safety improvements.

Kuakini Highway (State Route 11)

  • Kailua-Kona (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 116 to 117, near Walua Road, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
  • Kailua-Kona: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 116 to 118, near Walua Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Hawaii Belt Road (State Route 19)

  • Ninole (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 17 to 19, between Kauniho Road and Waikamalo Park, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
  • Ninole: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 17 to 19, between Kauniho Road and Waikamalo Park, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.
  • Laupahoehoe to Ookala (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 25 to 29, near Moonlight Road, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Queen Kaahumanu Highway (State Route 19)

  • Kailua-Kona (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 96 to 98, near Hale Makai Place, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for drainage cleaning.
  • Kailua-Kona: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 97 to 98, near Honokohau Street and Hale Makai Place, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for drainage cleaning.

Keaau Pahoa Road (State Route 130)

  • Pahoa: Single lane closure possible near mile post 7.7, near Ainaloa Boulevard, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for maintenance work including fading crosswalk repairs and reinstalling broken tuff curbs.

Mamalahoa Highway (State Route 190)

  • Waimea: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 0 to 1, near Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving and striping.
  • Waikoloa: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 12.2 to 16.4, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving and striping.

Kohala Mountain Road (State Route 250)

  • Kapaa’u (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible between mile posts 9 to 14, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
  • Kapaa’u: Single lane closure possible between mile posts 9 to 14, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.

Puainako Street (State Route 2000)

  • Hilo: Single lane closure possible between Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving and shoulder work as part of the Puainako Street Improvements project.

Kalanianaole Avenue (State Route 200)

  • Keaukaha: Shoulder closure possible between mile post 0.07 to 0.09, near Kuhio Street, on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for turf curb installation.

For the week of January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there will be no Highway 130 AM contraflow or lane closures unless otherwise permitted.
