Late Evening Fire Claims Puna Home

Hawaii Fire Department received a report of a structure fire located at 14-4987 Puua Road in Pahoa at 6:44 PM early last night. By 6:47 pm the HFD was out on the road with the first unit arriving at 7:20 pm.

Upon Arrival, it is reported that HFD found a single-story structure fully engulfed in flames that had collapsed before HFD’s arrival. HFD contained and extinguished the fire and a complete overhaul was performed. It is also reported that no rescues were required for this incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and ruled as unknown as of the press release time.

The scene was turned over to Hawaii Police Department. HPD determined the resident’s owner had passed away a few months prior and the house was thought to be uninhabited. It is estimated that the loss was around $10,000.00.
