Missing Kapoho Woman Located on Mainland, Subsequently Dies in Traffic Accident

Hawai‘i Island police report that 42-year-old Andrea Wyckoff of Kapoho, who was reported missing on August 18, 2021, returned home to California. Police were notified that Wyckoff died in a single-vehicle traffic collision in Nevada on September 9, 2021.

Nevada Highway Patrol reports that on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at approximately 5:00 PM Pacific Time, Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) Troopers responded to a fatal crash on US6 at mile marker 11 in Esmeralda County, near Montgomery Pass, Nevada.

Preliminary investigation determined that a 2021 black Kia Soul, was traveling west and a 2020 white Ford F250 was traveling east on US6 near mile marker 11 in Esmeralda County. For unknown reasons, the Kia traveled across the centerline and into the eastbound lane where the left side of the Kia struck the left side of the Ford. The Kia continued west in the eastbound lane, rotated counterclockwise, and traveled onto the eastbound dirt shoulder where it came to rest on its wheels. The Ford continued east, rotated counterclockwise, and traveled onto the eastbound dirt shoulder where it came to rest.

The 62-year-old male driver of the Ford, from California, was not injured. Unfortunately, the driver, 42-year-old Andrea Wyckoff also from California (Kapoho) suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.


This crash is being investigated by the Northern Command East Multi-Disciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction.
