As the Complaint alleges, Kamohai was charged with Theft in the Second Degree (theft of property valued more than $750, a Honda Accord) and Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (unauthorized control of a Honda Accord without the owner’s consent). Review of court records indicate that at the time of the alleged offenses, Kamohai was out on bail for an unrelated pending felony case. Kamohai was also wanted on other outstanding warrants for unrelated District and Family Court matters.
Kamohai is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $20,000.00 bail for the theft case. He is also being held in lieu of bail in the other pending matters.
The investigation was handled by Detectives John Balberde and Blaine Morishita, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department and Investigator Shane Muramaru, Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
