A Mountain View man, 32 year-old Daesyn Pacheco-Muragin, was charged by Prosecutors via felony information in relation to an August 15, 2022 traffic stop on Volcano Highway where Pacheco-Muragin is alleged to have fled the scene prior to being apprehended. On Wednesday afternoon, Pacheco-Muragin was arrested for the outstanding felony information warrant in this case and another unrelated warrant.
Pacheco-Muragin is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Hilo Circuit Court on Thursday. He remains in custody in lieu of $136,000.00 bail in this case.
Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that as the Information alleges, Pacheco-Muragin was charged with Place to Keep Loaded Firearms Other Than Pistols and Revolvers (a .44 caliber Magnum rifle), Carrying or Possessing a Loaded Firearm on a Public Highway, Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Without a License, and three counts of Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited.
Place to Keep Loaded Firearms Other Than Pistols and Revolvers, Carrying or Possessing a Loaded Firearm on a Public Highway, and Ownership or Possession Prohibited are all class B felony offenses that are punishable by a ten-year prison term. If convicted as charged, Pacheco-Muragin faces sentencing to a mandatory prison term and will not be eligible for probation.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
