NORTH KOHALA, Hawaiʻi – Residents in affected areas of North Kohala are advised to limit water use to essential needs overnight from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26, until 6:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2025. This water conservation request comes from the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Water Supply (DWS) in anticipation of a scheduled overnight power outage by Hawaiian Electric.

Hawaiian Electric announced the power outage to perform system maintenance and upgrades in North Kohala, as detailed on their website. DWS’s pumping equipment relies on Hawaiian Electric’s power, meaning it will not be able to operate during this period.

Affected Areas Include:

  • Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) between Mile Marker 18 and Hāwī Road.
  • Portions of Kamalei Place, Pu‘u Mamo Drive, Beers Road, Kūkini Place, Kainoa Road, ‘Āina U‘i Road, Iki Road, Kama Loop, Keahipoe Place, Red Cinder Road, and Ka‘auhuhu Homestead Road, including all side roads and lanes.

Furthermore, customers located on the upper portion of Ka‘auhuhu Homestead Road to Kohala Mountain Road, ‘Āina U‘i Road, Iki Road, Beers Road, and the Maliu Ridge Subdivision should prepare for no water during this power outage. These customers are strongly advised to set aside drinking water ahead of time in preparation for the temporary outage.

To assist residents, DWS will set up a temporary water spigot on a fire hydrant near the Ka‘auhuhu Transfer Station for public use during the power outage.

For more information, customers can visit the DWS website at www.hawaiidws.org, call (808) 961-8050 during normal business hours, or email dws@hawaiidws.org. For after-hours emergencies, please call (808) 961-8790.
