Onomea, HI – Motorists planning to travel along the Onomea Scenic Route on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, should be aware of a temporary one-way traffic pattern that will be in effect from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section announced the change today to ensure the safety of participants in a “5K Walk and Run” coinciding with the La Honua Festival at Pepe‘ekeō Park.

According to Program Manager Torey D. Keltner, traffic will only be permitted to flow in the Hilo direction, or easterly, on Old Māmalahoa Highway between Kulaimano Road and Old Onomea Road, allowing access to Highway 19.

Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for potential delays during this period. The Hawai’i Police Department appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation in ensuring a safe and enjoyable event for all.
