Pahala Man Charged in Relation to Stolen Toyota Tacoma and Felon in Possession of Ammunition and Methamphetamine Incidents

Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Pahala man, 29 year-old Scotty Kawa’auhau was charged in relation to a November 5th unauthorized control of a Toyota Tacoma and a November 30th felon in possession of ammunition and methamphetamine incidents.

As the Complaint alleges, Kawa’auhau, a repeat offender with a prior felony conviction for Burglary in the Second Degree, was charged with six (6) offenses including Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (operating a Toyota Tacoma without the owner’s consent), Resisting an Order to Stop Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (possession of one-eighth of an ounce of more of methamphetamine), Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited (prior felony conviction), and Place to Keep Ammunition. If convicted as charged, Kawa’auhau faces sentencing to a mandatory prison term.

Kawa’auhau is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Kona District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $72,250.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Officers Sean Kepo’o, Kona Patrol, Robert Sakata, South Kohala Patrol, and Chandler Nacino, Area II Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Annaliese Wolf.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
