Pahoa Man Charged with Attempted Distribution of Methamphetamine and Resisting Arrest

Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Pahoa man, 51 year-old Wayne Rudolph Borreta, was charged for attempted distribution of methamphetamine and resisting arrest related to an August 24th incident in Puna.

As the Complaint alleges, Borreta, who has sixteen (16) prior felony convictions, was charged with six (6) offenses including Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (attempt to distribute over an eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (possession of over an eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine), Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Third Degree (possession of over three grams of marijuana), Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, and Driving Without a License.

Borreta will make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $79,000.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Officer Daniel Rances, Special Enforcement Unit, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elyssa Correia-Keltner.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
