Police Charge Kona Man with Theft and Robbery in Connection With Bank Robbery Investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged 44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona with robbery and theft as a result of their investigation into a robbery at a financial institution in Kailua-Kona on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

At 3:24 p.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a report of an active robbery at a bank in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road in Kailua-Kona. Police determined that a male suspect entered the bank, produced a note demanding money, and fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one in the bank was physically injured.

After further investigation, including interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance, police identified the suspect as Nicholson. He was located nearby and arrested at 4:37 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and on Friday, August 30, recovered more than more than $2,800 in US currency after executing a search warrant on a backpack Nicholson had in his possession during the incident.
