Police Charge Second Hilo Juvenile for Burglary and Other Property Crime Offenses

Hawai’i Island police have arrested and charged a second male juvenile with burglary and other property offenses following two incidents which occurred at two different school campuses in Hilo, on July 17, 2024.

On Friday afternoon, July 19, 2024, South Hilo patrol officers responded to Waiakea Elementary School and arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile after a parent brought him to the school to tell the principle that he was the other juvenile identified in the video surveillance footage which had been posted on social media.

On Friday afternoon, July 19, 2024, at 3:05 p.m., after conferring with the Hawai’i County Prosecutors office, Area I Juvenile Aid Section detectives charged the second juvenile with the following offenses:

Second-degree burglary
Second-degree criminal property damage
Fourth-degree criminal property damage
Two counts of fourth-degree theft

The two juveniles involved in the investigation were not students of either Waiakea campuses.

In order to separate the two suspects, the second juvenile was released to his parent and issued a Notice to Appear in Family Court for Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 8:30 a.m.
