Pāhoa, Hawai’i – Hawai’i Island police are once again appealing to the public for information regarding the disappearance of 30-year-old Shanice Ogata-Staudinger, who was last seen in Pāhoa in July 2023. Despite extensive search efforts last year, Ogata-Staudinger remains missing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Ogata-Staudinger was last seen on the morning of July 9, 2023, near Kahakai Boulevard and Papio Street in Pāhoa, an area known locally as “Hau Bush.” She was reportedly picking opihi (limpets) with a relative but became separated and failed to return to their designated meeting point. Her family has not heard from her since and are deeply concerned for her well-being.
Following her disappearance, a comprehensive search was conducted by emergency personnel, including Hawai’i Island police using a scent-discriminating canine, the Hawai’i Fire Department’s helicopter, and the United States Coast Guard. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful in locating Ogata-Staudinger.
In the months since her disappearance, police have continued to investigate, following up on tips and conducting interviews with Ogata-Staudinger’s associates, friends, and family. However, her whereabouts remain unknown.
Shanice Ogata-Staudinger is described as a local female with a medium build, standing 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes and a distinctive dollar sign tattoo on her left cheek.
Police are urging anyone who may have any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, regarding the disappearance of Shanice Ogata-Staudinger to contact Detective Sybastian Keltner of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2378 or via email at Sybastian.Keltner@hawaiicounty.gov.
