Hawai‘i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the driver of a white Toyota pickup truck connected to a traffic collision that occurred on Saturday, December 28, 2024. The incident took place shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Highway 11 between mile markers 19 and 20 in the Glenwood area.

According to police reports, a grey Toyota pickup truck heading southbound (Hilo-bound) on Highway 11 collided with a black Mazda sedan traveling in the opposite direction. The collision resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the occupants of the Mazda, who were taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for treatment.

Before police arrived at the scene, the driver of the grey Toyota fled after being picked up by someone driving a white Toyota pickup truck. Authorities are now seeking to identify the driver of this white Toyota, who may have information about the identity of the person involved in the crash.

Police urge anyone with details about the driver or any individuals picked up in the area near the crash site around the time of the incident to come forward. Those with information are asked to contact Officer Israel Mata at israel.mata@hawaiicounty.gov or call the non-emergency police line at (808) 935-3311.

For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. Anonymous tips may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000, and Crime Stoppers ensures confidentiality by not recording calls or using caller ID.

This investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify and locate all parties involved.
