Police Seeking Public’s Help to Identify Suspect in Kailua-Kona Wallet Theft

Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi – Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a recent theft that occurred in the 73-4300 block of Hawaiʻi Belt Road in Kailua-Kona and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The incident was reported on Saturday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., when a woman reported dropping her wallet in the parking lot of a retail shopping center. The wallet contained cash and identification.

Video surveillance footage from a nearby store captured images of an unknown local female picking up the wallet. The suspect then placed the wallet inside a gray 2023 Jeep Wrangler, bearing Hawaiʻi license plate ZLK 608, before driving away from the area.

Police are asking anyone who may recognize the female suspect or who has information about this incident to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311. Information can also be emailed directly to Officer Eli Cayetano at eli.cayetano@hawaiicounty.gov.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program that allows members of the community to provide anonymous tips and may offer a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers does not record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
