Police Thank the Public’s Assistance in Identifying Hilo Burglary Suspect

Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 47-year-old Sheldon Pagan, of Hilo, with various property offenses stemming from a burglary of a business which occurred in the early-morning hours on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Hilo.

The burglary occurred at a business located in the 100 block of Kalanianaole Street in Hilo, and two male suspects were captured on video.  A media release with the suspects’ photographs was released and several tips were received from the public identifying Pagan as one of the suspects.  Pagan was positively identified and was arrested on November 5, 2024. 

On November 5, 2024, after conferral with the Hawai’i County Prosecutors Office, Pagan was charged with the following offenses:

  • Second-degree burglary 
  • Second-degree theft
  • Third-degree criminal property damage

Pagan’s bail was set at $43,000. The other suspect has not been identified and is described as a local male wearing a dark top, ball cap and dark shorts and had a beige wrap-type bandage on his lower left shin and a small beige bandage below his right knee cap.  Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Amy Omaya of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2381, or email at amy.omaya@hawaiicounty.gov.
