Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced 32 year-old Kamren Forest Adams of Ocean View was indicted by a Kona grand jury in relation to an incident that occurred on May 12, 2024 at a residence on Alaoli Drive in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.
On May 30, 2024, Ka‘u patrol officers arrested Adams on a $70,000.00 indictment warrant.
On May 31, 2024, Adams made his initial appearance in Kona Circuit Court where his bail was maintained at $70,000.00. He was ordered to appear on August 1, 2024 for return on examiners’ reports.
Adams was originally charged by way of Complaint and made his initial appearance in Kona District Court on May 14, 2024. Over Prosecutors’ objections, the Court released Adams on supervised release. The Court suspended the proceedings for Adam’s examination as to fitness and penal responsibility, appointed examiners, and ordered that Adam’s return for a hearing on the return of the examiners’ reports on June 19, 2024. On May 21, 2024, Prosecutors presented the case before the Kona grand jury, obtained a true bill, and the issuance of the $70,000.00 warrant.
As the Indictment alleges, Adams is charged with Burglary in the First Degree (enter or remain unlawfully in a building with intent to commit terroristic threatening and/or assault and disregarded the risk that the building was the dwelling of another) and Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree (with the use of a simulated firearm).
Burglary in the First Degree is a class B felony offense which carries a penalty of either a ten-year prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail. Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree is a class C felony offense which carries either a penalty of a five-year prison term or four years probation and up to twelve months in jail.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The case was initiated by Ka‘u Patrol. The Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene. The felony investigation was led by Detective Len Hamakado, Area II Criminal Investigation Section. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chase Murray.
