Puna Man Charged Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Puna man, 40 year-old Robin Chun Nakapaahu was charged in relation to a November 5th incident in Orchidland.
As the Complaint alleges, Nakapaahu was charged with Attempted Theft in the First Degree (theft of a firearm), Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, and three counts of Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer in the First Degree. At the time of his arrest, Nakapaahu was out of custody on bail pending an unrelated felony matter.
Nakapaahu is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $57,000.00 bail.
The investigation was handled by Puna Patrol and Detective John Balberde, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hashizaki.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
