A Puna man, 37 year-old Brandon Blye, was charged with burglary, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and methamphetamine possession in relation to an incident that occurred on October 4, 2022 at a residence on 33rd Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. Review of court minutes indicate that Blye was previously granted supervised release over Prosecutors’ objections on September 23, 2022 for another unrelated burglary incident that occurred between September 18 and September 20, 2022 in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision.

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen reports the Complaint alleges that Blye was charged with Burglary in the First Degree (intentionally enter or remain unlawfully in a building, with intent to commit theft, and recklessly disregard the risk that the building was another person’s dwelling), Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (enter or remain unlawfully in a motor vehicle with the intent to commit theft), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia. The most serious offense, Burglary in the First Degree is a class B felony offense which carries a penalty of a ten (10) year prison term or four (4) years probation and up to eighteen (18) months in jail.

Blye is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Wednesday afternoon in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $45,250.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Officers Alipate Moleni, Taylor Cruz, Branden Watanabe, and Keenan Ouranitsas, Puna Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
