Puna Man Charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Habitual Property Crimes

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Puna man, 30 year-old Devin Saragosa-Taoy was charged in relation to incidents that occurred between September 18th and 30th in Kea’au.
As the Complaint alleges, Saragosa-Taoy, a repeat and persistent offender, who has eight (8) prior felony convictions, was charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, and two counts of Habitual Property Crime. At the time of his arrest, Saragosa-Taoy was also arrested for three (3) outstanding warrants related to revocation of his supervised release in unrelated felony matters. Review of court records indicate that Saragosa-Taoy is currently pending felony charges for Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle and Habitual Property Crime, alleged to have occurred in July 2021.
Saragosa-Taoy is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $52,000.00 total bail.
The investigation was handled by Puna Patrol and Officer Bryson Miyose, Community Policing Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
