Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Puna woman, 34-year-old Jenna Martin, was charged with escape in relation to an August 15, 2022 incident at the Pahoa Police Station.

As the Complaint alleges, Martin was charged with a single count of Escape in the Second Degree. Escape in the Second Degree is a class C felony offense that carries a penalty of a five (5) year prison term or four (4) years probation and up to one year in jail.

Martin made her initial appearance on Thursday afternoon in Hilo District Court. Her bail was maintained at $10,000.00 and she was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on August 15, 2022.

The investigation was handled by Officer Bryson Miyose, Puna Community Policing, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Nathan Wersal.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
