Roadwork Scheduled for Hawaii Island State Roads: April 12-18

HILO, HAWAII – Motorists on Hawaii Island should prepare for potential delays next week due to scheduled roadwork. The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of lane closures planned across the island from April 12th to April 18th for maintenance and safety improvement projects.

Important Note: There will be no contraflow or lane closures on Good Friday, April 18th, unless specifically permitted. All scheduled work is weather permitting and subject to change without further notice.

Here’s a breakdown of the planned roadwork by route:

Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11):

  • Hilo: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 0-2.5, near Ahona Place, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mulching and shoulder work.
  • Hilo (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 0-3, near East Palai Street, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mulching and shoulder work.
  • Hilo: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 2-4, near East Puainako Street and Lama Street, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mowing.

Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11):

  • Naalehu (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 56-57, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.
  • Naalehu: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 65-67, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.
  • Honaunau: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 97.3-104.7, near Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road, Monday, April 14th through Thursday, April 17th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for safety improvements.
  • Captain Cook: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 107.3-108, between Rabbit Hill and Government Main Road, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.

Kuakini Highway (Route 11):

  • Keauhou: Roving single lane closures with shifts in the center of the road between mile markers 114-115.6, near W. Honalo Road and Ihilani Place, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for pavement marking.

Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19):

  • Hilo: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 2.7-4, near Kanoa Street, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.
  • Honomu to Hakalau: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 13-15, near Chin Chuck Road, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • Hakalau (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 14-15, near Old Mamalahoa Highway and Chin Chuck Road, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for tree trimming.
  • Hakalau: Possible single lane closure in either direction between mile markers 15.3-15.4, near Old Mamalahoa, Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for bridge maintenance.
  • Honohina/Ninole: Possible single lane closure in either direction between mile markers 17.6-17.7, Wednesday, April 16th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for bridge maintenance.
  • Ninole: Possible single lane closure in either direction between mile markers 18.5-18.6, Tuesday, April 15th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for bridge maintenance.
  • Ninole: Possible single lane closure in either direction between mile markers 19.4-19.45, Monday, April 14th and Tuesday, April 15th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for bridge maintenance.
  • Ookala: Possible single lane closure in either direction between mile markers 30-30.1, near Old Mamalahoa Highway, Tuesday, April 15th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

Kawaihae Road (Route 19):

  • Kawaihae: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 62-67, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.

Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19):

  • Hapuna Beach (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 67-71, near Kawaihae Road and past Puako Beach Drive, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.

Pahoa Kalapana Road (Route 130):

  • Pahoa (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 12-14, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for cutting grass.

Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190):

  • Waimea: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 0-1, near Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, Monday, April 14th through Thursday, April 17th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for paving and striping.
  • South Kohala: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 9.7-12.2, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for striping and installation of raised pavement markers.
  • South Kohala: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 12.2-16.4, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for paving and striping.

Akaka Falls Road (Route 220):

  • Honomu (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 0-3.7, near Hawaii Belt Road, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for cutting grass.

Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270):

  • Kawaihae (Weekend Work): Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 3-5, Saturday, April 12th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for shoulder work.
  • Mahukona: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 7-12, Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for culvert cleaning and shoulder work.

Puainako Street (Route 2000):

  • Hilo: Possible single lane closures in either direction between mile markers 0.5-2.2, near Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, Monday, April 14th through Thursday, April 17th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for striping and installing raised pavement markers.
