The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of single lane closures on several key routes, including Routes 11, 19, 130, 190, 270, and 2000.
Drivers are urged to plan accordingly, allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution in work zones. All projects are weather permitting, and schedules are subject to change without notice. Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) – Hilo:
- Between mile post 0.4 and 0.9, near Piilani Street and Leilani Street, expect single lane closures in either direction on Monday, April 21st, and Tuesday, April 22nd, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for lane line and crosswalk maintenance.
Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11):
- Pahala: Single lane closures possible in either direction between mile post 54 and 56, Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for grass cutting.
- Honaunau: Between mile post 97.2 and 104.7, near Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, through Friday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for safety improvements.
- Captain Cook: Single lane closures possible in either direction between mile post 108 and 109, near Government Main Road and Koa Road, from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.
- Holualoa: Between mile post 117 and 118, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.
Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19):
- Hilo: Single lane closures possible in either direction between mile post 4 and 5, near Kahoa Place, from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for mowing.
- Honomu to Hakalau: Between mile post 13.5 and 15, near Honomu Road and Chin Chuck Road, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.
- Hakalau: Single lane closure Monday, April 24th, between mile post 15.2 to 15.3, near Old Mamalahoa Highway, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Hakalau Stream Bridge maintenance.
- Honohina/Ninole: Single lane closure Wednesday, April 23rd, between mile post 17.6 to 17.7, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Opea Stream Bridge inspection.
- Ninole: Single lane closure Tuesday, April 22nd, between mile post 18.5 to 18.6, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Waikaumalo Stream Bridge inspection.
- Ninole: Single lane closure Monday, April 21st, between mile post 19.4 to 19.45, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Ninole Stream Bridge inspection.
Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) – Kawaihae:
- Between mile post 62 and 66, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for grass cutting.
Pahoa Kalapana Road (Route 130) – Pahoa:
- Between mile post 19 and 21, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for grass cutting and shoulder work.
Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190):
- Waimea: Between mile post 0 and 1, near Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, through Friday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for paving and striping.
- South Kohala: Between mile post 9.7 and 12.2, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for striping and installation of raised pavement markers.
- South Kohala: Between mile post 12.2 and 16.4, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, to Friday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for paving and striping.
Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) – Kawaihae:

Puainako Street (Route 2000) – Hilo:
- Between mile post 0.5 and 2.2, near Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, expect single lane closures in either direction from Monday, April 21st, through Friday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for striping and installing raised pavement markers.
