Runway Improvements Announced for Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

HONOLULU — The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming runway improvements at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) as part of the ongoing Runway and Taxiway Shoulders Rehabilitation Project. The project aims to maintain compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards and ensure safe airfield operations.

Key Dates and Changes

During this period, Runways 8L-26R, 8R-26L, and 4R-22L will remain operational for arrivals and departures.

Impact on Airfield Operations

HDOT anticipates minimal disruption to overall airfield operations. However, travelers may experience delays, particularly on interisland flights during peak hours from mid-morning to early afternoon, as transpacific arrivals will be prioritized due to the reduced runway capacity. Additionally, residents in nearby neighborhoods may notice increased noise from rerouted aircraft.

Project Timeline

The Runway and Taxiway Shoulders Rehabilitation Project is expected to be completed by October 2025. All dates for closures and reopenings are subject to change based on weather conditions.

HDOT expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding as these necessary improvements are carried out to enhance the safety and efficiency of operations at HNL.

For more information and updates, travelers are encouraged to visit the official HDOT website or contact airport authorities.
