Hilo, Hawaiʻi – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has announced scheduled maintenance on the scale house located at the Hilo Reload and Organics Facility on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The work is expected to be completed within the same day.

Technicians will be conducting thorough inspections, necessary repairs, routine maintenance, and official certifications of both the inbound and outbound scales. This maintenance is crucial for ensuring accurate weight measurements and efficient operations at both the East Hawaiʻi Reload Facility and the East Hawaiʻi Organics Facility, which rely on the scales for their operations.

The DEM anticipates that the maintenance will result in temporary delays for users accessing both facilities. The public is advised to be aware of potential wait times and is urged to follow all posted signage and exercise caution while in the area.

The Department of Environmental Management appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as they work to maintain the infrastructure for optimal waste management services in East Hawaiʻi.
