Search Underway for Missing Kona Fisherman Last Seen Off Miloli’i

KONA, HAWAI’I ISLAND – Hawai’i Island police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 42-year-old Earl Kekuanaoa Hind of Kona, who went missing after launching his fishing vessel from the South Point area on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Hind, described as Hawaiian, stands 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds, and has brown hair and hazel eyes. His vessel, a 21-foot Force with a 2-foot extension named “Makalapua Onalani,” has a white hull, light blue cabin, and is powered by twin outboard motors.

According to reports, Hind typically fishes in the waters around South Point. He and his vessel were last seen on Wednesday, April 9, around 12:00 p.m., offshore near the Miloli’i area heading north. Hind’s truck and boat trailer were found parked near the South Point boat ramp. Hind and his vessel’s current whereabouts are unknown at his time.

Authorities have initiated search and rescue operations. The Hawai’i Fire Department and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) are conducting aerial searches, while additional shoreline searches are also underway.

The United States Coast Guard is also asking anyone who locates Hind or his vessel at sea to contact the USCG Command Center, LCDR Raphael Sandowitz at (808) 842-2600.

The case is being investigated under report number 25-033026.
