During the week of June 14, 2021, through June 20, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested sixteen (16) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 559 DUI arrests compared with 402 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 39.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 367 major accidents so far this year compared with 381 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.7 percent.
To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities, compared with 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 9 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 33.3 percent for fatal crashes, and 33.3 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
