KOHALA COAST, HI – South Kohala District Officer Landon Takenishi has been recognized as Officer of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2024 by the Hawaii Island Safety and Security Professionals Association (HISSPA) for his exceptional investigative skills. The award was presented at a ceremony held on February 28, 2025, on the Kohala Coast.
Officer Takenishi was lauded for his meticulous work in connecting three suspects to multiple crimes, ultimately dismantling a criminal operation and recovering stolen property that included a dangerous unregistered shotgun.
The investigation began on October 26, 2024, when Officer Takenishi responded to a report of stolen golf carts and tools in the Waikoloa area. While still on the scene, Dispatch alerted officers to the active theft of a riding lawnmower. Demonstrating sharp focus and attention to detail, Officer Takenishi responded to the new call and was able to link the suspect in the lawnmower theft to the earlier stolen golf carts and tools.
The investigation not only resulted in arrests but also led to the recovery of a significant amount of stolen property, as well as illegal drugs, including 11.88 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an unregistered shotgun. Law enforcement officials emphasized that these recovered items, particularly the firearm, could have posed a significant threat to the community.
Officer Takenishi worked tirelessly to piece together the investigative puzzle, His hard work culminated in three suspects being arrested and charged for the crimes, including numerous felony offenses.
Takenishi’s professionalism, resourcefulness, and ability to perform under pressure were crucial to the success of the investigation. His leadership in the case was instrumental in ensuring public safety.
“His outstanding performance in this investigation has had a significant and positive impact on our community,” said Sergeant Bradden Kimura, who nominated Officer Takenishi for the award.
This marks the third time Officer Takenishi has been honored by HISSPA. He previously received the award in Q3 2023 for his work on an assault investigation and again in Q2 2024 for his dedication to road safety. His consistent commitment to excellence and his unwavering pursuit of justice continue to make him a valuable asset to the South Kohala District and the entire Hawaii Island community.
