Around 2:20 am this morning. A report came into the HPP Hawaii Fire Department Station of a house on fire on Kaloli and 6th Ave in the Hawaiian Paradise Park area of Keauʻu on the Big Island.

According to reporting party, the house was vacant, they heard their dogs barking, and looked outside to see flames coming from the structure. Within 9 mins of the report, the first HFD units were on the scene.

Upon arrival, HFD found what was described as a vacant wood frame single-family dwelling, built on post and pier, with corrugated metal roof, approx 1250 sq ft. with 100% of the structure was on fire by this point. With no bystanders at the scene and no nearby structures appearing to be threatened.  HFD determined a structural collapse was imminent and a defensive strategy was assumed.

By 3:33 am the fire was contained and brought under control preventing the fire from spreading to other structures or the nearby brush. HPD had to utilize a roadblock due to a downed power line on Kaloli Drive. Once power was disconnected by HELCO. HFD commenced with its overhaul to extinguish the fire. By 7:05 am the fire was reported to be completely put out and the scene was turned over to Hawaii Police Department for investigation. HPD determined no investigation by the fire inspector was needed.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
