Pahoa, Hawaiʻi – Multiple Hawaiʻi Fire Department (HFD) units responded to a structure fire on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 4 a.m. in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision.
The fire was located at an apparently abandoned, single-story, wood-framed residential structure at 15-0357 Mamo Street. The fire was partially involving the structure when Engine 10 arrived and was able to get the fire under control.
Engine 18 and Truck 10 provided additional water and manpower for overhaul operations. Battalion Chief 1B arrived and took command, requesting fire inspectors to investigate the origin of the fire due to its suspicious nature and the presence of possible squatters.
Hawaiʻi Police Department (HPD) officers also responded and are awaiting the fire inspectors’ findings before completing their final report. The fire resulted in an estimated loss of $138,000, with $38,000 saved.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
