Yesterday afternoon, emergency responders rushed to a residential structure fire at 18 street in Hawaiian Paradise Park, where a family of four escaped with injuries. The incident, which occurred at approximately 3:30 PM, resulted in three individuals being transported to the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment.
Upon arrival at the scene, responders from Medic 18 (M-18) and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) discovered smoke billowing from the first floor of the wooden two-story home. Engine 18 (E-18), along with units from Company 10 and Company 05, swiftly mobilized to contain and extinguish the blaze, which was confined to a single room on the ground floor.
According to reports, the fire was determined to have been caused by intentional ignition involving gasoline. Fire investigators conducted interviews with the injured occupants while examining the scene to ascertain further details.
Despite the intensity of the fire, responders managed to quell the flames and subsequently conducted thorough inspections of the premises to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
As a precautionary measure, two patients were transported by M-18, while M-05 handled the transportation of another injured individual to the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room for immediate medical attention.
The exact extent of injuries sustained by the family members remains undisclosed at this time. However, officials confirmed that the fire did not spread beyond the initial room thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of the responding units.
