During the week of November 29, 2021, through December 5, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested thirteen (13) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 992 DUI arrests compared with 927 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 7.0 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 748 major accidents so far this year compared with 726 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.0 percent.
To date, there were 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 66.7 percent for fatal crashes, and 66.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
