Here is an updated list of locations of sand piles on the Big Island. The Mayors office erroneously put out an old list accompanied by an old map of locations. It has since been corrected.
These locations of sand piles are to enable residents to make their own sandbags ahead of possible flooding due to Hurricane Douglas.
Please note that the sand is available while supplies last, and you will need to bring your own shovel and bags to collect the sand.
Empty jute sandbags are available at a variety of hardware and home improvement supply stores across the Island, and can be filled with sand or soil. Heavy-duty trash bags can also be used to hold sand or soil.
