During the week of August 23, 2021, through August 29, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 727 DUI arrests compared with 612 during the same period last year, an increase of 18.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 529 major accidents so far this year compared with 500 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.8 percent.
To date, there were 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 15.4 percent for fatal crashes, and 15.4 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
