During the week of June 28, 2021, through July 4, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 601 DUI arrests compared with 447 during the same period last year, an increase of 34.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 394 major accidents so far this year compared with 401 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.7 percent.
To date, there have been 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities, compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 20 percent for fatal crashes, and 20 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
