Waimea Man Dies in Home Accident Involving Riding Mower

Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a fatal home accident incident involving an elderly man and a riding lawn mower that occurred Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2024, at a Waimea residence.

Around 1:15 p.m., South Kohala patrol officers and Hawai‘i Fire Department (HFD) personnel responded to a residence located off the 64-5200 block of Nani Waimea Street in Waimea for a report of a 78-year-old man who was unresponsive and pinned under a riding lawn mower. HFD medics determined that the man was deceased upon arrival. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
