HILO, Hawaiʻi – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works has announced that tree trimming and vegetation maintenance will begin on Waipiʻo Valley Road starting Monday, May 19, 2025. This initiative, aimed at enhancing road safety and maintaining the area’s natural beauty, will be carried out by contractor Tree Works.

The project is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and is expected to conclude by Friday, August 8, 2025. To minimize disruptions, work will focus on weekdays, allowing residents and visitors to plan accordingly.

However, motorists should be aware of planned road closures during the project. Closures will occur from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to facilitate safe and efficient trimming operations. Alternative routes are recommended during these times, and drivers are advised to check for updates via the County of Hawaiʻi website or local traffic alerts.

The announcement, issued for immediate release on May 13, 2025, emphasizes the importance of this maintenance for preventing potential hazards such as overhanging branches and overgrown vegetation. County officials encourage the community to exercise patience and caution in the area.
