AFFECTED AREAS: MAJORITY OF HILO SYSTEM, FROM PAUKA‘A TO PANA‘EWA, AND INCLUDING WAIĀKEA-UKA, AND KEAUKAHA; SOUTH HILO, HAWAI‘I
This is an urgent message from the Department of Water Supply (DWS), County of Hawai‘i.
Effective immediately, the DWS has implemented a Water Conservation Notice requesting Hilo customers to reduce water use by at least 10 percent.
This measure is necessary because a significant leak occurred in a water main that delivers water from a Pana‘ewa well. Customers may experience low water pressure or temporary service interruptions until the water main is repaired. Water remains safe to drink, and quality is not threatened.
DWS crews are onsite working to repair the damaged water main. Repairs are anticipated to be completed this evening. Updates will be issued as necessary and may be viewed at www.hawaiidws.org.
Using water only for drinking, cooking and sanitation needs will help ensure emergency supplies remain available for all customers. Please visit www.hawaiidws.org and click on the “Conservation” link in the top menu bar for water-saving tips.
The DWS thanks customers and the public for their cooperation, patience, and understanding while it works to maintain the supply of safe drinking water.
For assistance, please call (808) 961-8050 or (808) 961-8790 during normal business hours, (808) 961-8790 for after-hour emergencies, or email dws@hawaiidws.org.
