Water Supply Advisory Issued for Portions of South Hilo Due to Fire Hydrant Testing

Hilo, Hawaiʻi – The Department of Water Supply (DWS) has issued a water notice for customers in specific areas of South Hilo, advising them of potential impacts to their water service due to a scheduled fire hydrant flow test.

The affected area includes customers along Kuawa Street between Kanoelehua Avenue (Highway 11) and Manono Street, and between Kamehameha Avenue and Piʻilani Street, including all side roads and lanes.

The fire hydrant flow test is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Customers in the designated area may experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test is completed. Residents are advised to refrain from washing clothes during this period and to store a container of water in advance for their drinking needs until the water supply returns to normal clarity.

The DWS extends its apologies for any temporary inconvenience this may cause. Should customers experience any unusual problems during or after the flushing period, they are encouraged to call Mr. Earl Yoshioka, District Supervisor, at (808) 961-8790.
