Windward Planning Commission to Consider Rezoning Request for Kinoole Street Property

Hilo, Hawaii – The Windward Planning Commission of Hawaii County has announced a public meeting and hearing to consider a rezoning request for a property located at 1198 Kinoole Street in Hilo. The meeting, originally scheduled for May 1, 2025, has been amended to include this new business item.

The request, submitted by Correa Ohana LLC (PL-REZ-2024-000071), seeks to change the zoning designation of a 33,180 square foot parcel from Single-Family Residential-10,000 square feet (RS-10) to General Commercial-10,000 square feet (CG-10). The property is situated approximately 200 feet north of the intersection of Kinoole Street and Kamana Street in Waiakea House Lots 2nd Series, South Hilo (TMK: (3) 2-2-022:022).

The change of zone request, now Item No. 2 under New Business, will be discussed at the Windward Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Hawaii County Council Chambers at 25 Aupuni Street in Hilo.

The announcement serves as formal notification to the public, in accordance with Chapters 91 and 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 6-7.5(a) of the Charter of the County of Hawaii, and the Planning Commission’s Rules of Practice and Procedure.

The public is invited to attend the meeting and offer testimony regarding the proposed rezoning request. Information regarding the application can be obtained from the Hawaii County Planning Department.
