During the week of March 14, 2022, through March 20, 2022, Hawai`i Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 250 DUI arrests compared with 281 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.03 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 158 major accidents so far this year compared with 167 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent.
To date, there were 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 6 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 33.3 percent for fatal crashes, and 66.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
