During the week of February 7, 2022, through February 13, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Four of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 129 DUI arrests compared with 163 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 20.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 87 major accidents so far this year compared with 88 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.1 percent.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 40 percent for fatalities.
