Kona VRL Office to Open on Select Saturdays to Address Licensing Backlog

by Thunda

The County of Hawaiʻi Vehicle Registration and Licensing Office in Kona will open on select Saturdays to help alleviate ongoing frustration from the community due to the “closed” walk-in service during normal business hours. Beginning today, February 15, those with licenses that are currently expired (and still within the renewal period) or with licenses that will be expiring within the next 30 days will be able to make appointments online at the County Vehicle Registration and Licensing webpage. No appointments will be available for individuals with current licenses that will not expire within the next 30 days.

The goal of the added appointments is to reach those drivers who are being adversely affected by the expired driver’s license issue and assist those whose license will be expiring in the next 30 days and who cannot find an appointment before their license expires.

Additional appointments will be made between 7:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on the following days:

  • March 19
  • April 2
  • April 30
  • May 21

The Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division would like to remind customers who have motor vehicle transactions and cannot make an appointment to process transactions via mail or from the County drop boxes at either the Hilo or Kona location.

To schedule an appointment today, visit: https://vehicleregistrationlicensing.as.me/renewals and select ‘Costumer Service Representative – 5 (Kona)’.
