During the week of March 8, 2021, through March 14, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 31 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 259 DUI arrests compared with 238 during the same period last year; an increase of 8.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 151 major accidents so far this year compared with 206 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.7 percent.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities, compared with 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 6 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 16.7 percent for fatal crashes, and 16.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
